The development of the Finnish Defence Forces’ capabilities relies strongly on domestic expertise, foresight and cooperation with civil society. Companies, research institutes and educational institutions constantly generate innovations, many of which are also suitable for the needs of the defence system. Making use of these solutions supports not only more efficient operations and technological renewal, but also national security of supply and self-sufficiency.

The Finnish Defence Forces Logistics Command develops the capabilities of logistics and maintenance through, among other things, experimentation activities in which solutions from the civilian market are tested for use by the Defence Forces. One topical example is the electricity concept project, which seeks new, sustainable ways to produce and use electricity in an operational environment. This results in agile, economical and ecologically sustainable solutions that support the comprehensive development of defence capability.
